Yokote City Masuda Manga Museum
Opened in 1995, this is the first art museum dedicated to manga. With its stage set in Yokote, it focusses on the research fieldwork done by local manga artist Takao Yaguchi, creator of the Fisherman Sanpei series that started a fishing craze in the 1970s-1980s in Japan. Also in its collection are exhibits on manga history and culture and original artwork by manga artists both in Japan and abroad. The museum is currently undergoing major renovations, and is slated to reopen on May 1,2019.

Sightseeing Spot in This Area
Located along the drainage basin of Akita Prefecture's longest river, Omono River, Yokote is blessed with a plentiful and pristine water source, making it a city where you can enjoy rivers, lakes, and hot springs. Wintertime traditions with a history of more than 400 years, such as building kamakura snow huts (as pictured) are still practiced, as are traditional festivals and events throughout the seasons; these are all very well-known. Furthermore, at the all-weather theme park Akita Furusato Village, one can experience the appeal of Akita Prefecture though sight, touch, play, experience, and taste, all in one location.
