The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

The first anime adaptation of Tsutsui Yasutaka's novel, the story talks about high schooler Makoto, who gains the power to time travel. During attempts to relive her past, she learns the meaning of the "times in life that cannot be replaced". This is a refreshing summertime story about youth.

Yoshiyama Kazuko, Makoto's aunt in the anime, is the protagonist of the live-action movie adaption of the novel in 1983. The place where Kazuko works, the Tokyo National Museum, is in Ueno. In the spring, the Ueno Onshi Park outside Ueno Station is full of cherry blossoms in bloom, and is a great place for flower viewing. Inside the park you will find the Shinobazu Pond, one section of which is a lotus pond that is completely covered in lotus leaves, and another section of which is a boat pond where you can rent paddle boats and the like. It is an oasis of nature that makes you forget you are in the middle of bustling Tokyo. In the anime, the fictional painting "The Painting of White Plum Blossoms, Camellias, and Chrysanthemums", is depicted to be installed at the Tokyo National Museum.
