HASEGAWA MACHIKO MEMORIAL MUSEUM

The long-selling series, “Sazae-san”, is representative of Japanese anime. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the original author, Hasegawa Machiko, the ” Hasegawa Machiko Memorial Museum (currently an annex of the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum)” opened on July 11, 2020. Here, you can experience the world of three major characters, “Sazae-san”, “Apron Obasan” and “Ijiwaru Baa-san”, while at the same time, you will come to understand the author, and all the works are on permanent display. There is also a SHOP & CAFE in the hall. Along with the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum, you can learn about the achievements of Hasegawa Machiko, Japan’s first female manga artist.

Sightseeing Spot in This Area

The station nearest to the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum is Sakura-shimmachi Station, with statues of characters from Sazae-san at the station’s North, South, and West Exits. Moreover, at the “Sazae-san Street” in the Sakura-Shimmachi Shopping District is a Sazae-san-themed cafe. A short distance away you can find a Setagaya City sightseeing destination, the only valley in the Tokyo metropolitan area’s 23 wards – Todoroki Valley (as pictured). At 15 minutes by car away from the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum, come visit this oasis in the heart of the metropolis.
