THE COLORS WITHIN

Totsuko, a high school student, sees people in “colors.” Happy colors, joyful colors, peaceful colors, and her favorite color. Totsuko decides to form a band with Kimi, a girl who goes to the same school and radiates beautiful colors, and Rui, a music-loving boy she meets at a used bookstore in a corner of town. Kimi has not confided in her family that she has stopped going to school. Rui, whose mother expects him to become a doctor, is hiding behind his musical activities. Each of them, including Totsuko, has their own problems that they cannot tell anyone. The band practices at an old church on a remote island. As the three of them find their way to each other through music, feelings of friendship and even a hint of love begin to emerge. They try too much to fit in, each of them getting hurt and pretending to be somebody they’re not. Then the school festival comes – their first live performance. What “colors” do the three of them show in front of the audience?

A completely original feature film that’s the crystallization of “music & youth” by anime director Naoko Yamada, who is attracting worldwide attention.
