BELLE

From the celebrated Academy Award®-nominated director Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu, creators of Mirai, Wolf Children, Summer Wars, and more, comes a fantastical, heartfelt story of growing up in the age of social media. Suzu is a shy, everyday high school student living in a rural village. For years, she has only been a shadow of herself. But when she enters “U”, a massive virtual world, she escapes into her online persona as Belle, a gorgeous and globally-beloved singer. One day, her concert is interrupted by a monstrous creature chased by vigilantes. As their hunt escalates, Suzu embarks on an emotional and epic quest to uncover the identity of this mysterious “beast” and to discover her true self in a world where you can be anyone.

Sightseeing Spot in This Area

Ochi Town, located in the central part of Kochi Prefecture, was a model for the town where Suzu lives. Surrounded by the roofs of Shikoku and the Ishizuchi Mountain Range, it is a town rich in nature with the bright sparkles of a clear stream, the Niyodo River. The Aso chinkabashi Bridge (Aso Submergible Bridge), which became a model for the bridge that was drawn in the scene where Suzu goes to high school in the anime, is a low-water crossing with a total length of about 121 m that spans the Niyodo River, which is famous as “NIYODO BLUE”. Not only can you enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Niyodo River, but the contrast between the surrounding mountains and Kamaida village on the opposite bank is also spectacular.
