With the opening of the Hokkaido shinkansen in March 2016, the southern Hokkaido region has become more accessible. At the heart of this region is Hakodate, renowned for having one of the top three night views in the world (as pictured); the expansive night views and historical architectural attractions such as the Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward are not to be missed. No discussion of cuisine is complete without mentioning the seafood. The “Hakodate Morning Market – Donburi Yokocho Market” – and its many specialty seafood shops – near the Hakodate JR Station is a great place to start if you are out of ideas about where to eat.
