Sightseeing Spot in This Area

The Shinano River, Japan’s longest river, flows past the city of Niigata in Niigata Prefecture on its way to the Sea of Japan. Near Niigata Station lies the Bandai Bridge (as pictured), a substantial stone bridge known as the landmark of the city. Originally built in 1886, the bridge is now in its third incarnation, and is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. For an elegant way to sightsee in Niigata, we recommend traveling down the Shinano River by Water Shuttle. The views of Niigata from the Shuttle’s domed glass roof are exceptional.
