Wolf Children

Hana fell in love with a werewolf, and bore two half-human, half-wolf children, Ame and Yuki. One day, the werewolf father died. Wanting her children to make their own decisions about whether they want to live as a human or a wolf, Hana moves to the countryside to raise her children in nature. This is a story that depicts a thirteen-year relationship between a mother and her children.

Sightseeing Spot in This Area

Kamiichi in Toyama Prefecture is the birthplace of director Hosoda Mamoru. In that town is an old house with a 130-year history, and is the inspiration for the house where Hana lives with her half-wolf, half-human children. “Hana no Ie” (as pictured) is generally open to the public, but to avoid disappointment, it is best to confirm with the local tourism center beforehand. Furthermore, visitors can experience the great outdoors in Kamiichi at scenic destinations such as Mount Tsurugi, a part of Chubu-Sangaku National Park, and the Oiwa-san Nisseki-ji Temple, which features a Magaibutsu Fudou-myoou (buddha deity carved into stone) that has been designated a national Important Cultural Property.
