The “main museum building” and “ANNEX” of the “Attack on Titan in HITA Museum” are facilities located in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, the hometown of Isayama Hajime, the author of “Attack on Titan”. The “Main Building” displays precious original drawings, works from Isayama’s childhood to adolescence, impressive objects, valuable captions of works with comments by Isayama, and the actual desk where he penned “Attack on Titan”. The “ANNEX” features a huge digital exhibit called “Immersive Comics” that makes you feel immersed in the world of manga, photos and works from Isayama’s childhood, large wall collages, panels, tapestries, and other valuable works. All facilities are well worth seeing.

Clouds over Goto YAMAMOTO NIZO ART MUSEUM

On display at this museum are works of Nizo Yamamoto, the art director of “Castle in the Sky”, “Grave of the Fireflies”,“Princess Mononoke”, “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” and other renowned works. The museum opened in July 2018 in Goto city, Nagasaki pref, the birthplace of Yamamoto. A samurai house named “Matsuzono-tei”, built in 1863, close to the end of Japan’s samurai age, has been remodeled into this museum. You can feel and learn the history and the culture of Goto Islands here. Inside, you see anime backgrounds painted by Yamamoto, landscape paintings made by the art director, who grew up in the grandeur of Goto’s nature, and many other exhibits. To fit nicely with the atmosphere of the samurai house, the exhibits are framed on Japanesque folding
screens. Also, in the “Room of the Sky and Clouds,” you can watch short animations* seated on a sofa. (*The contents may vary.)

KITAKYUSHU MANGA MUSEUM

Kitakyushu Manga Museum is located in Kokura, the heart of northern Kyushu and home of many famous manga artists including Matsumoto Leiji, Watase Seizo, Hatanaka Jun, Mutsu Eiko, and Hojo Tsukasa. Upon entering the museum, you can take photos with a life-sized statue of Captain Harlock. The most popular sections include the exhibition of the life and achievements of Matsumoto Leiji and a library with a 70,000-book manga collection available for reading. And what’s more, there are also regular manga workshops for beginners and periodic special exhibitions about manga or anime.

A manga artist, illustrator, lyricist, editor, and designer, Yanase Takashi was very active in different types of media. With the purpose of collecting, studying, and exhibiting Yanase’s work, the Kami City Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall was founded in 1996. It features the “Anpanman Museum”, where you can experience the world of his significant picture book Anpanman, and the “Poem and Märchen Gallery”, which displays the Poem and Märchen magazines that Yanase considered his lifework.

Mizuki Shigeru was one of Japan’s leading manga artists. The 800m shopping street which runs from Sakaiminato Station in Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture, where he is from, to the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Museum, is a tourist spot called Mizuki Shigeru Road.
In addition to 178 bronze statues of monsters, including Kitaro, the main character of his masterpiece Gegege no Kitaro, there are also yokai shrines and shops selling character goods. In his honor, the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum was established in the city in 1994.
