Give It All

Mitsu Higashi High School is holding a school-wide rowing class match. While everyone is giving their all to the competition, the only person with a cool expression on her face is second-year student Etsuko Murakami. Etsuko has realized that there’s no point in trying your hardest if you don’t have any talent, so she’s always giving up on the competition.

Then one day, a new student called Riina Takahashi joins Etsuko’s class. Riina is so moved by the class match race that she enlists the help of Etsuko and her childhood friend Hime Saeki to revive the rowing club, which was on the verge of being disbanded. When two more students from the same year, Taeko Hyodo and Mayumi Imoto, join the club, making a total of five members, Etsuko, who had only intended to lend her name, reluctantly agrees to take part in the club’s first competition.

On the day of the race, Etsuko and the others are devastated by the gap between their ideals and reality. Just as they’re about to give up on reaching the finish line, Etsuko grabs her oar again. With Etsuko’s words, “I want to do better!”, the five of them become one.

Etsuko and the others now set off on the sea, with a shout of “Ganbatte Ikimasshoi! (Give it all!)”

“Give It All” is a youth novel set in Matsuyama that depicts the lives of high school girls who devote their youth to the rowing club. This anime feature film brings the universal appeal of the original novel to the screen, while changing the setting to the present day.

Sightseeing Spot in This Area

Matsuyama City, the largest city in Shikoku, is partly urban and partly rural. The famous Dogo Hot Springs, the Kururin Ferris wheel and Horinouchi Park, which also appear in the film, are located in the center of the city, and the train that Etsuko and her friends take to school goes to Baishinji Beach, where the rowing club practices, in less than 30 minutes. The charms of the compact city of Matsuyama are nicely expressed in “Give It All”
