A junior high school pianist who has become unable to play the piano since the death of his mother, meets a girl.
The free-spirited and passionate melody played by her on the violin, moves time that has stood still for him, and makes his monochrome world colorful.
Kousei Arima has gained a reputation as a talented pianist, but became unable to hear the sound of his piano due to the traumatic loss of his mother. Kousei meets a classmate and violinist, Kaori Miyazono, through his friend from childhood, Tsubaki Sawabe. Kaori is a free-spirited, arrogant and quarrelsome girl with a distinct personality. Driven by her passion, Kousei returns to playing the piano. They get closer through musical performances, but Kaori has a secret.
This is an innocent coming-of-age story portrayed against a backdrop of seasonal beauty, based on real-world locations such as Ōizumi-Gakuen Station and Heisei Tsutsuji Park in Nerima Ward, Tokyo. A hot topic is that pianist Tomoki Sakata and violinist Yuna Shinohara served as model artists for the scenes where the characters play the instruments.
