Notice of “Overseas Correspondent” experience program cancellation due to cancellation of “AnimeJapan 2020”

The Anime Tourism Association (Chairman, Yoshiyuki Tomino) had originally planned to hold the AJ2020 “Overseas Correspondent” experience program (hereafter, this program) to widen the appeal of Japanese anime throughout the world, as part of “AnimeJapan 2020” (AJ2020) on March 21 (Sat) and 22 (Sun) 2020 in cooperation with the AnimeJapan Executive Committee. Unfortunately, in the light of the government’s self-restraint policy due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and for the safety of visitors and other parties involved, we announce that this program has regrettably been cancelled due to the suspension of AJ2020 organized by Anime Japan.

This program was the first tentative by AnimeJapan to limit entry to Japanese anime fans residing abroad. It began recruiting in February, and had already exceeded the application limit. Preparations for the program were progressing steadily, and we were convinced it was a valuable opportunity to make AnimeJapan an event that could be enjoyed even by people overseas, but this program has been cancelled since AJ2020 will not be held.

We sincerely apologize to all those who applied.

Regarding handling of refunds due to cancellation of the plan, we will refund the full amount of the participation fee to those who were selected, according to the articles on the sales page of Cool Japan Travel, Inc.

The Anime Tourism Association hopes that the damage due to the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will be contained as soon as possible, and that an environment will be created in which Japanese anime fans can enjoy events and visiting anime spots with peace of mind. In future, we intend to develop and provide more projects that will delight Japanese anime fans with the cooperation of the parties concerned.
